Dr. Radhakrishnan was Independent India’s first Vice President and second President. In 1962, the year when Dr. Radhakrishnan assumed the Presidential office, the first-ever Teacher’s day was celebrated because Dr. Radhakrishnan was a staunch believer of education.

According to the studies, Dr. Radhakrishnan was born in a middle-class family in Tirutani in 1888. He completed his post-graduation with a master’s degree in Philosophy from Christian College, Madras.
Dr. Radhakrishnan made many notable achievements in his life and received numerous honors and awards. In 1917, he wrote his book, “The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore, and marked an achievement by getting the world’s attention on India’s Philosophy. He taught at Chennai’s Presidency College and Calcutta University. Also, he was the Vice-Chancellor of the Andra Pradesh University from 1931 to 1936. Dr. Radhakrishnan used to get invited to teach Eastern Religions and Ethics at Oxford University from 1936 to 1952. In spite of all these, he was the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University till 1948, he was invited for the position by Madan Mohan Malaviya. Of all the achievements, the most prominent ones were when he received his knighthood in 1931, the Bharat Ratna in 1954, and his honorary membership of the British Royal Order of Merit in 1963. Dr. Radhakrishnan was nominated for the Nobel Prize several times.
