National Conservation Day – Date, History, Significance & Celebration

National conservation day has a main motive behind its celebration i.e. the foundation for a stable and productive society is a healthy environment. This day makes sure that we conserve our environment for our future generations.

As Mahatma Gandhi rightly said, “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”

Nowadays it has become very important to create a healthy environment to make sure that our environment and resources are conserved for the future generations. There are various threats to our environment such as deforestation, pollution, illegal wildlife trade, plastics, chemicals, etc. Mother Earth takes care of us like a mother, she provides us with water, soil, air, minerals, trees, food, animals, etc. Hence, it is our duty to maintain our environment clean and healthy. Many factors like industrial development are responsible for depletion of nature. Whatever we do comes around and affects us because everything is linked together.

Although the history of National Conservation Day is not known. But the motive behind celebrating it on December 14th is to create awareness among the people to not to deplete nature and not to exploit it. Nature conservation is a wise way to manage and utilise natural resources. However due to natural imbalance, we’re facing a huge problem such as global warming, diseases, natural disasters, increased temperatures, etc. Therefore, it becomes very important to conserve environment for the future generations. It becomes important to create awareness among the people all across the world to make people understand the importance of saving resources, preserve it, recycle it and also save it from damaging.

It is not important that government should take steps to conserve environment. It also the responsibility of the people of the country and world to conserve nature for future generations.

There are many ways in which we can save our environment for our future generations. Most of them are as follows:

  1. Reduce the consumption and avoid wastage of water.
  2. Recycle: We should buy reusable and biodegradable products to avoid wastage of resources.
  3. Avoid the wastage of electricity and reduce the use by switching off the appliances when not in use.
  4. Plant trees and plants.
  5. We should grow vegetables and fruits in our locality and eat them.
  6. We should avoid littering.
  7. Avoid smoking. Smoke is injurious to health and environment. It has particles that deplete the ozone layer.
  8. Reduce pollution.

We should all come together to save our environment and the main motive behind celebrating this day is to conserve and save our environment.
